Suspected Islamist activists executed 13 individuals during assaults on two villages in eastern Congo, the military and a village chief stated, the most recent in a spate of assaults the United Nations says may comprise war crimes.

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an Ugandan equipped group working in North Kivu region in Democratic Republic of Congo, have murdered more than 1 000 regular people since the beginning of 2019, as per UN figures.

Militiamen tied up the victims in the towns of Kinziki-Matiba and Wikeno, 10 km east of the city of Oicha, before killing them in the assault on Friday evening, said Chui Mukalangirwa, a nearby village chief.

“We beg the authorities to put an end to this bloodbath,” he said.
